Mission Statement Churches of Christ
Who are these people?
A Quick Look at
our History
We are a faith community in Saskatoon seeking restoration to wholeness through the person and power of Jesus Christ.

We invite others to journey with us as we walk in the light of God's Word and allow the principles of the Bible to shape our lives.

Our only agenda is to be like Christ and share His love with all that desire to know Him.

Through vibrant worship, meaningful ministry and compassionate service we hope to be messengers of God in this world, following and pointing others to the way of the cross.

Our church family is an autonomous congregation loosely connected to other Churches of Christ by our common love for God and our commitment to following His purpose for our lives. [We have no Regional, National nor International headquarters]. We accept the Bible as the authoritative Word of God and believe its teachings are intended for all people on earth today. Recognizing the dangers of creeds we are attempting to allow the scriptures themselves to be our guide as we look to the example of Christ and the principles which guided the first century church in lifestyle, worship, doctrine and organization.

We believe that salvation is by the grace of God through the blood of Jesus and that faith, repentance, confession and baptism are responses to the cross of Christ. These decisions and actions constitute our acceptance of God's marvelous, saving grace and our commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in our own personal lives.

We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to convict the world of sin and to work powerfully in the lives of the redeemed to overcome evil and live faithfully before God until Jesus returns.

We are striving to be a growing and vibrant community of faith where, as believers, we accept one another because God has accepted us.

We try to make our worship inspiring and encouraging but above all we want to offer praise to God for who He is and what He has done.

We are grateful to God for the abilities he has given us and in response we offer ourselves in ministry and service to Him, to one another and to the world. Our goal is to glorify God in all that we do and to share the good news of Jesus with as many as possible in our lifetime.

We await eagerly the return of Jesus when the redeemed of all the ages will be taken by Him into the presence of God for eternity.

The beginning of this congregation can be traced back to 1947 when the Olson family moved to Saskatoon from Wynyard, Saskatchewan. They began meeting in their home on Sunday afternoons at 713 McPherson Ave. with a few other families and University students.

This small group of Christians later met at the YMCA and the Hungarian Hall on Ave. F until the first building was constructed in 1952. That building was located at 1023 8th Street East and served the church until 1967 when a more suitable location was found at 2240 Albert Ave. In January of 1968 the move was made to the Albert Ave location which became home for the next thirty years.

In February 1996 an offer to purchase was accepted by the congregation on the Albert Ave. property and our final service was held there on the last Sunday in April. Like Abraham, "we went out, not knowing where we were going". We met for four months in a rented school and during that time prayed fervently that God would provide a larger and more functional facility for us to meet in for worship and use for ministry.

God answered our prayer and opened the doors for us to purchase the former William's Catering building at 134 Cardinal Crescent. We took possession of the building at the end of August 1996 and spent the next eight months renovating it. Like the first building we had in Saskatoon, nearly all the work was done by volunteer labor. God has supplied our needs abundantly and our move to the present location is allowing us to minister and serve in a variety of ways.
